Tom Kelly and Kevin Hasson, two of the Bogside Artists, will speak about their artwork in the Handwerker Gallery on Monday, March 21, at 7:00 pm. Kelly and Hasson are members of a trio of artists from an area of Derry City, Northern Ireland, known as the Bogside.

In January 1972, 14 people were shot dead in Bogside by the British Army. The Bogside Artists captured this event in a large mural situated on the site.

The artists have continued to commemorate the conflict in Northern Ireland through a series of building-sized murals. They have committed themselves to using painting as a means to objectify the past so its unconscious hold is unravelled.

This event is part of the Engaging Democracy series, sponsored by the Office of the Provost and the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies. The BogSide Artists' appearance at Ithaca College is additionally supported in part by the Ithaca College Department of Politics and the Irish American Unity Conference.

More information about their work can be viewed on their website, The Bogside Artists
