106-VIC Radio is broadcasting the annual 50 Hour Marathon this weekend. Can DJs Petau and Kokes stay awake and on the air for 50 hours? Tune in to find out!
Two DJs at the College's 106-VIC radio station will be awake and on the air for 50 hours, beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18. The station's 20th annual 50 Hour Marathon will be simulcast on WICB (91.7 FM) as well as on Time Warner cable channel 16. Each hour of the marathon is sponsored by individuals, groups, and businesses. Proceeds from this year's event go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ithaca and Tompkins County.
The DJs, Peatu and Kokes (Peter Davis '06 and Kristen Zatina '05), hope the event will raise between $2,500 and $3,000. According to Davis, "We're not attempting to set an endurance record. But, we are hoping to raise some awareness of Big Brothers Big Sisters and raise some money to help them continue the excellent services they provide in the community."
Highlights of the weekend include several remote broadcasts from Collegetown Bagels, Ide's Lanes, Mano's Diner, and Dynamic Patterns. A marathon kick-off event is scheduled for Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in IC Square, featuring singer songwriter Adam Day '07. A battle of the bands beginning at 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Castaway's will feature headliners Missing Marcus and The King Left.
The marathon concludes at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 20. To follow the progress of Petau and Kokes, tune to 105.9 FM on Time Warner cable, or listen at www.106VIC.org.
