Asma Barlas gave the keynote address at the first ever national conference on Muslim women's health needs organized by the University of Illinois at Chicago on March 4.
The conference drew a cross section of health care workers, academics, and government and NGO officials from across the U.S.
On March 7th, she gave a talk on "Muslim Women's Rights" at DePaul Law School, also in Chicago.
Barlas also presented a lecture on "Feminist Readings of the Qur'an," at Harvard University, as part of the "Islam in the West Series" organized by the Center for Middle East Studies. While there, she was invited by Frank Vogel to co-teach his class on Islamic law at the Harvard Law School.
