An article in the Indianapolis Star written by Mark Alesia focuses on how Title IX has helped women sports move forward, but at the expense of dropping some women sports.
Alesia states, "Yet at the same time, there are concerns, for basketball and for women's sports in general. Some say the NCAA and school athletic directors, even as they built basketball, dropped the ball in other women's sports."
IC's Ellen Staurowsky was also quoted in the article.
"To some degree, the signs of progress in women's sports are measured by their willingness to enter the same rat race as the men," said Ellen Staurowsky, a professor of sports management at Ithaca College in New York. "The more women's athletics gets pulled into the rat race, the more it loses its capacity to provide a measure of tempering what's going on."
