David Marcus, scholar in residence in the Journalism department, will give a presentation titled, “Covering Teens and Tweens: A Reporter’s Journey into American Adolescence” on Wednesday, April 13, 4:00-5:30 p.m. in Park 220.
Marcus, a Pulitzer Prize-winner, will discuss the four years of camping, hiking, teaching, and observing group therapy that led to his widely-praised nonfiction book, What It Takes to Pull Me Through: Why Teenagers Get in Trouble and How Four of Them Got Out. He’ll show a short video and he’ll talk about innovative ways for print journalists and broadcasters to tell stories of children and teenagers.
Marcus began his journalism career in 1982 as an education reporter for the Miami Herald. Since then, working as a staff writer, columnist, and foreign correspondent for various newspapers, he has traveled to nearly 50 countries covering a range of events, including the rise of terrorism and the breakup of the Soviet Union.
