John Bradac, Director of Career Services, was recently selected as the Outstanding Mentor for New Professionals at the 2005 American College Personnel Association convention in Nashville, TN.

Sponsored by the Standing Committee for Graduate Students and New Professionals, this award recognizes those individuals who are making significant contributions to the field of Student Affairs. As the Outstanding Mentor, John was recognized as “an outstanding student affairs professional who goes above and beyond in his/her efforts to provide guidance and support to new practitioners in the field of student affairs.”

As John’s nominators explained, his genuine enthusiasm for the student affairs profession and especially for assisting new professionals as they enter this field are truly above and beyond the call of duty. For more than 15 years, he has been a dedicated member of the national Placement Services planning team and is still the person a candidate is likely to meet in that all-important Candidate Orientation to Placement workshop. John has been an enthusiastic guide for new professionals as they progress through placement services at the national meeting. Such mentoring has enabled him to positively impact these early career experiences of young professionals and to help shape their understanding of this profession as the truly supportive, educational, engaging career experience it is.

There have also been student affairs practitioners who will contact John as they advance in their career. Though no longer a new professional, they have continued to seek out his advice and guidance. Aside from his involvement with the national Placement Team, John is also an active internship supervisor on the local level. Interns are also welcome to become an active member of our career services team. John strives to fully integrate each intern into the workings of our office while also providing ample opportunity for direct student contact as well as leadership on a significant project of the intern's choosing. John's attention to the individual person and to his or her career development is both noteworthy and impressive.

Please join the Career Services staff in congratulating John on this most deserved award.
