An April 24 Chicago Tribune article, "Classes strive to be anything but boooring," mentions IC physics professor Michael Rogers' methods in teaching physics concepts.
Rogers asks students to analyze the physics of events in cartoons and movies -- e.g., "Why does Wile E. Coyote fall at a constant speed?" The hypotheses to explain these phenomena can be outlandish, but they must be expressed as principles of physics.
