The second annual Department of Sport Management & Media Hole-in-One Golf Tournament held at Hillendale Golf Course on April 23, was a huge success! A total of 55 students, parents, alumni, and faculty participated in the event.

The event was supported by the following local businesses which bought corporate sponsorship packages or provided food and beverages or items for prizes for the players:

Gino's, Domino's, Short Stop Deli, CTB, Uncle Joe's, East Coast Glass, Dick's Sporting Goods, Cornell Barbershop, State Street Diner, and the Common's Deli. The parents of SM&M students, Jared Weinberg and Jake verDorn, also supported the event as sponsors. Alumni representing various sports organizations supported the event by providing items for the silent auction. The event generated proceeds of which $1,000 was donated to the United Way of Tompkins County to provide financial support for a local sports/recreational program in Ithaca.

Meg Sturges and Melissa Perry served as co-directors of event management and operations for the golf tournament. Meg and Melissa provided overall leadership for the event and they coordinated the activities of students who served on the following committees:
Sponsorship -- Greg DeLuca, Matt Lenowicz, and Chad White
Alumni promotions/silent auction -- Jeremy Lisch, Ernest Saeger, and Jared Weinberg
Communications/promotions - Jessica Toglia and Jake verDorn

The students were assisted by Cindy Turo, administrative assistant, in the Department of Sport Management and Media and their planning activities were coordinated by Wayne Blann, who served as faculty advisor.

This year's event focused on bringing students, parents, alumni, and faculty together in a fun-filled atmosphere to help promote a sense of camaraderie. In addition, the event was designed to support a local charity. The mission of the event was achieved!

Students will meet early in the fall 2005 semester to begin planning for the 2006 golf tournament. Information about the date and plans will be provided early and regularly. You are encouraged to participate in next years' event to help strengthen and grow this event.
