Hugh Rowland, associate dean in the School of Business, has accepted a terrific opportunity as assistant dean at the University of South Carolina Union.

In his new role, Hugh will serve as the chief academic officer for the USC Union campus. In addition to administrative duties similar to those he carried out at IC, he will also be responsible for hiring and evaluation of full-time and part-time faculty.

Hugh is officially leaving us this week, after nearly 17 years of dedicated service to the College. However, we have scheduled a formal event and farewell for Hugh from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Klingenstein Lounge on Friday, September 16, so that he will be able to see faculty and students, once our semester is back in full swing. A reminder will be posted on Intercom as the date nears.

Please join me in congratulating Hugh on this terrific opportunity and for the fact that he and his family will be realizing a goal of theirs to return to the south. I know I speak for all of us when I say Hugh's dedication to IC, the School of Business, and our students, has made a tremendous and lasting impact. Let's wish him all the best (and plenty of warm, sunny days) in his new endeavor south of the Mason-Dixon line.

Susan West Engelkemeyer
Dean
