TransGeneration is an eight-part documentary focusing on four college students undergoing gender transition. Before the series premieres on the Sundance Channel in late September, the special festival cut will be screened on campus on Wednesday, August 31, in Textor 102 at 7:00 pm.
The Sundance Channel is collaborating with campuses across the nation to coordinate screenings at 100 colleges across the country. Sundance is keenly interested in having students see the project first because the subjects of the film are themselves attending college.
"This series is a moving portrait of four fascinating people at a dramatic time in their lives," says Laura Michalchyshyn, executive vice president of programming and marketing for the Sundance Channel. "The film also offers an engaging first-hand look at the current trend on college campuses of confronting gender issues and politics head-on."
Gabbie and Raci (born male, but now living as women) and Lucas and T.J. (born female, but now living as men) attend different campuses and come from varied social backgrounds, yet are all about to experience a pivotal moment in their lives. The eight-episode series follows the students over the course of the 2004-5 school year, capturing their setbacks and triumphs as they balance the challenges of academia, campus life, and family with their commitment to gender reassignment.
