The year-long film series Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen: The Many Meanings of Family continues on Thursday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. in Textor 103, with a screening of "De Colores: Lesbian and Gay Latinos -- Stories of Strength, Family & Love.” Presented in conjunction with Latino/Latina Heritage Month, the showing is free and open to the public.
Winner of many honors, including an Audience Award in the Documentary Short Film category at the 2001 Outfest Film Competition, "De Colores" depicts Latino families and communities struggling to accept their gay sons and daughters. Through interviews with parents, children, and other family members, filmmakers Peter Barbosa and Garrett Lenoir show how families are breaking cultural barriers and personal prejudices to accept and love their children unconditionally.
