The Handwerker Gallery and the Department of Art History are pleased to announce that Fairfield University's Katherine Schwab will deliver a lecture entitled “Remembering the Past thorough Plaster Casts” on September 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Gannett 112.
As demonstrated by the Gallery’s current exhibition “Tradition and Innovation: Plaster and Page,” a growing network of institutions, including Ithaca College, has developed new and innovative ways of integrating plaster casts into the curriculum and campus community as a whole. Schwab will discuss the resurgence of plaster casts in the study of classical archaeology, figure drawing and art history, as well as their status, once again, as a highly valued resource that not only evokes memories of the past, but also inspires creative uses for the future.
Schwab is an associate professor of art history in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Fairfield University, where she also curates the Metropolitan Museum of Art cast collection.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information please contact Handwerker Gallery director Cheryl Kramer at 274-3548.
