Gregory DuQuella, M.D. '92 will be the keynote speaker at this year's Professionals Symposium Awards Dinner on October 8 at 6:00 p.m. in Emerson Suites. Sponsored by the Offices of Alumni Relations, Career Services, and Multicultural Affairs, the Professionals Symposium celebrates students and alumni of color and their academic and professional achievement, and brings them together for meaningful mentoring opportunities.

As an Ithaca College student originally from New York City, Gregory DuQuella was a member of the African-Latino Society, where he held the roles of internal and external affairs officer. He was an active member of Kuumba Repertory Theater and he co-wrote and co-directed two of the three plays he performed. Greg was an Amani Gospel singer, vice president of Focus on South Africa, a member of the Chemistry Club, and a member of the Haitian Club at Cornell University.

Upon graduating from IC with a degree in biochemistry and a minor in creative writing, Dr. DuQuella taught chemistry at Phillips Academy for a year. He then went on to begin his medical training at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. While there, he was vice president of the Student National Medical Association, a minority student recruiter for the medical and graduate school, and a volunteer tutor for high school students.

Dr. DuQuella received his medical degree in 1997, and then started his residency training at the University of Illinois at Chicago in a combined program for internal medicine and pediatrics. During his residency, Greg traveled to Peru, Belize, Guatemala, and Mexico to do tropical medicine in rural areas, including the Amazon jungle. In his last year of his residency, he served as the chief resident for the internal medicine and pediatrics program. It was during the first year living in Chicago, 1998, however that he met his wife, Chalene Corinaldi, M.D. The two were married in April 2004.

Dr. DuQuella has just started his new position as hospitalist director at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas.
