Faculty Clarinet Recital to Feature Music of Ithaca's Roberto Sierra

Ithaca College School of Music faculty clarinetist Richard Faria will present a free recital on Tuesday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. Pianist Xak Bjerken and percussionist Rob Bridge will collaborate.

The music of Cornell composer Roberto Sierra will comprise most of the recital. Faria is preparing to record a CD of Sierra’s works for clarinet. Included on the recital will be “Cincos Bocetos,” “Tres Fantasías,” “Tres pensiamentos,” and “Tema y variaciones.” The “Fantasiestücke, Op. 73” by Robert Schumann and Lutoslawski’s “Dance Preludes” will round out the program.

Richard Faria is a founding member of the new music group Ensemble X. He has performed with the National Repertory Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival, Syracuse Symphony, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, Skaneateles Festival, Bang on a Can Festival, Mother Mallard, as a guest artist with the Sylvan Wind Quintet, Ithaca Wind Quintet, Ariadne String Quartet, Atlantic String Quartet, Guild Trio, as soloist with the Young Composer's Collective and the North West Symphony. He has has appeared at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Miller Theater, and the Smithsonian Institution.
