Offering an alternative to the traditional master class teaching method, William Westney will bring his “Un-Master Class” to the Ithaca College School of Music at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25. The free workshop will take place in Whalen Center Room 3102. Musicians of any level are invited to attend, and non-musicians are also welcome. Westney’s approach is designed to focus performers’ energy on communicating authentically with the audience, reconnect participants with their exuberant, natural physical intuition about music, and assist performers to reach new, significant levels of artistry.
Westney trained as a pianist at Queens College and Yale, winning the top piano prize in the Geneva International Competition. He has performed throughout the world both in recital and as a concerto soloist. Currently on the faculty at Texas Tech University, where he has won awards for excellence in teaching, Westney lectures extensively in interdisciplinary issues such as practice psychology, performance-related injuries, learning, and creativity.
