Sustainable Tompkins’ final sustainability class in 2005 will feature Professor Michael Smith from the Department of History and the members of his U.S. Environmental History class, who will present on Local Environmental History and Ecological Citizenship, on December 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the History Center.
Collaborating with the History Center, teams of students from Smith’s class have utilized the collections of the History Center as primary source materials for their research into the environmental history of Tompkins County. The students will present their research and interpretations of a wide range of past environmental and sustainability events, including local flood history, disease epidemics, and debates over local power production.
