On behalf of the students, staff, and faculty of Ithaca College, President Peggy R. Williams presented a check for $45,970.34 to the American Red Cross of Tompkins County on Tuesday, December 6. The contribution was the result of a semester-long series of fund-raising activities by the College to help the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The most prominent of the fund-raising initiatives was the “Strive to Give $5” campaign, organized by the American Red Cross at Ithaca College (ARC@IC), the African-Latino Society (ALS), and other student groups.

According to Chuck Nocera, executive director of the American Red Cross of Tompkins County, the Ithaca College contribution represents the largest single donation the chapter has received for hurricane relief.

Taking part in the check presentation were (in photo, left to right) President Peggy R. Williams; Tyrell Lashley, Fallon Blossom, and Ebony Blue from the ALS; and Mike Raffe, emergency services director, and Chuck Nocera, executive director, from the American Red Cross of Tompkins County.
