Seasonal Affective Disorder and Light Box Demo Display
~~~~Please read prior to using the light box.~~~~
When the seasons change, do you:
" Have less energy than usual?
" Feel less productive or creative?
" Need more sleep?
" Feel down or depressed?
" Notice changes in your appetite?
Seasonal Affective Disorder is reported by 17% of Ithaca College students. The Health Promotion Program and Counseling Center are providing this light box demonstration and information for you to learn more about SAD and its treatment.
Please take the following into consideration:
" Seasonal Affective Disorder (or seasonal depression) is best treated with a variety of therapies including counseling, lifestyle changes, and for some, use of a light box.
" Reading the information available in the Resource Room and Counseling Center will help you understand SAD. Help yourself to handouts and brochures.
" Use of the light box should be limited to no more than 10 minutes a day (for trial use) unless longer periods of time have been suggested by a counselor or medical professional.
" Although it's rare, some people experience headaches or symptoms of mania following use of a light box. This is more prevalent among people who have been diagnosed as bipolar. Please discontinue use of the light box immediately if you experience any negative side effects.
" We encourage students who experience seasonal depression to make an appointment with a counselor in the Counseling Center.
Thanks for your interest in this display - we hope the information and light box demonstration have been helpful to you. Please feel free to ask questions.
