The year-long film series "Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen: The Many Meanings of Family" continues with a screening this week of "Creating a Place at the Table." Free and open to the public, the screening will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, in Textor 102. The film was released on February 20, making our campus one of the first places to screen this new documentary.
"Creating a Place at the Table" explores three lesbian households from different cultural backgrounds and upbringings. From a Canadian woman estranged from her Baptist parents to a Filipino mother who offers unconditional support and love, this documentary explores the challenges, compromises, and joys inherently embedded within cross-cultural lesbian parenting.
The next Out of the Closet event will take place on April 1 with a day-long film festival featuring the most popular offerings from the Out of the Closet series. The films will be chosen by an online campus poll. Details on the poll coming soon.
The series is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services.
