Tenor David Parks and pianist Rebekah Jordan-Miller will present a free recital of the songs of Richard Hundley on Sunday, March 26, at 4:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. The recital is part of a series of performances of the songs in Pennsylvania, Florida, and Canada, which will be followed by recording them for CD release. It was originally scheduled for March 13, but was postponed due to illness.

Parks’ recent performances include the role of Spoletta in Puccini’s Tosca with Syracuse Opera. In December, Parks sang the tenor solos in Handel’s Messiah with Hamilton University and Beethoven’s Mass in C minor with the Catskill Symphony. Additionally Parks performed the tenor solos in Bach’s Cantata 29 with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, the Bach Christmas Oratorio with the Ithaca Community Chorus, and will conclude the season performing the role of Basilio in The Marriage of Figaro with Syracuse Opera.

Richard Hundley spent the years 1960-1964 in the Metropolitan Opera Chorus. Hundley has lived in New York City and has known many contemporary composers and has been friends with several. In 1962 he met Virgil Thomson who became his teacher and friend until Thompson's death in 1989. Hundley's mature songs were greatly influenced by Thompson. In 1982 his songs ware added to the repertory list for Carnegie Hall competitions. In 1987 he was recognized as a "standard American Composer for vocalists." Hundley's songs are part of the vocal repertory in major music schools in the United States and abroad.
