Well, it is only a mere week until the Bursar's Benefit Auction, and a question seems to be politely circulating among friends. Just what IS a "silent auction?" Isn't the purpose of an auction to hoot and holler and make yourself known? A silent auction is an event where all the merchandise is beautifully displayed for your viewing pleasure. Beside each item is a bidding sheet, and hopeful bidders put their bidding number on the sheet along with their bid. Putting your first one on is the easy part...the tricky part is circling around like a buzzard, keeping an eye on your item while cleverly disguising the fact from your friends that YOU are that #24 who keeps increasing the bids! At noon the bidding will be over, and the last number and bid will be circled, making all that milling around a successful mission! But, you also need to be HEARD at an auction...read on for some items to get noisy about!

Items are arriving fast and furious at the auction headquarters in Job Hall. Some of our newest items include beautifully matted and framed photos (including a once-in-a-lifetime shot of a sunbathing cow, taken by our very own president!), all sorts of wonderful Ithaca College memorabilia, and a wide selection of chairs (including one hand-made and two Thonet brand) and bulletin boards. Tired of your same old wardrobe? Dress it up with one of several pieces of beautiful jewelry that will make others drool with envy! Want to participate but just don't have lots of money? Buy one of our prize balloons and pop away for your prize! There will be some awesome gifts in our balloons!

The Bursar's Benefit Auction will be held on Wednesday, March 29, in the Clark Lounge of the Campus Center. The silent auction will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon, followed by the live auction from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. It is worth staying for the live auction just to watch the "Sam and Duane Show!" Come early and get a good seat! Auction items are being put on a website for your early viewing pleasure. Contact the office at 274-3135 for the link to the website. Get ready to bid till the cows come home...even sunbathing ones!
