On two consecutive evenings, the Ithaca Wind Quintet and the Ithaca Brass will present free recitals in the Hockett Family Recital Hall on the Ithaca College campus. The Wind Quintet will perform on Tuesday, April 4, at 8:15 p.m., the Brass on Wednesday, April 5, at 7:00 p.m.

The Wind Quintet’s program features music of Bach, Alexander Zemlinsky, Rob Paterson and Chris Brubeck. In an unusual twist, the group will be joined for a jazz piece by pianist John White, guitarist Steve Brown, bassist Nicholas Walker, and percussionist Conrad Alexander.

Founded in 1963, the Ithaca Wind Quintet performs concerts and gives master classes at conventions, universities, and high schools throughout the northeast. The group has premiered the works of many composers, including Dana Wilson and Karel Husa, a former faculty member and Pulitzer-Prize winning composer.

On Wednesday, the Ithaca Brass will present a program of duets, trios, and quartets. The group was established in 1966 as the resident brass quintet of the Ithaca College School of Music, making the quintet one of the very first groups of its kind. Since then the Ithaca Brass has performed programs throughout the United States at regional, state, and national conferences of educators and professional music organizations.

The Ithaca Brass is responsible for several commissions including works by Chuck Mangione and Malcolm Lewis, and they have recorded on the Mark Records and Golden Crest labels. Each of the members of the quintet, which is composed of the Ithaca College brass faculty, has significant credentials as a performer and teacher, and the group is conversant in virtually every musical language ranging from classical to jazz.
