The sociology department, in conjunction with the newly forming
organization Social Class Awareness, will be offering a free showing of
the film BUBBLE directed by Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Ocean's Eleven).
BUBBLE centers on a small, economically depressed Ohio town. Starring
non-professional actors from the location’s surrounding area, the film
explores the romantic tragedy that unfolds in a love triangle between
three workers in the town’s doll factory. BUBBLE premiered at the 2005
Venice International Film Festival, and screened at the Toronto
International Film Festival and New York Film Festival. Hailed by film
critic Roger Ebert as a "masterpiece," it is the first film to be released
in cable, DVD, and theaters simultaneously.
