Deborah A. Nawoczenski of the Ithaca College Department of Physical Therapy, Rochester, New York was the recipient of the 2006 Roger Mann, MD Award at this year’s American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) Summer Annual Meeting. This prestigious award is given in recognition of the best basic clinical paper accepted for presentation at the Annual Summer Meeting.

The topic of Professor Nawoczenski’s manuscript was “Dynamic Kinematic and Plantar Pressure Changes Following Cheilectomy for Hallux Rigidus: A Long Term Follow-Up.” As the senior author on this paper, she and her co-authors, Dr. John Ketz, Department of Orthopaedics, University of Rochester Medical Center, and Dr. Judith F. Baumhauer, chief, Foot and Ankle Division, Department of Orthopaedics, University of Rochester Medical Center, were presented with a plaque as well as a monetary award from the Mann endowment fund during the AOFAS Summer Annual Meeting held in La Jolla, California in July, 2006.

Professor Nawoczenski and her co-authors’ paper will appear in the AOFAS journal "Foot & Ankle International" during this upcoming year. This award is given annually to an outstanding paper that exemplifies the principles and teachings of clinical foot and ankle surgery.

The AOFAS promotes quality, ethical and cost-effective patient care through education, research, and training of orthopaedic surgeons and other health care providers; creates public awareness for the prevention and treatment of foot and ankle disorders; and provides leadership and serves as a resource for government and industry, as well as national, and international health care communities.
