ITHACA, NY—U.S. News & World Report America’s Best Colleges has ranked Ithaca College in the top ten of “Best Master’s Universities by Region” for the tenth year in a row. Furthermore, once again, the publication named Ithaca College in the top ten “Great Schools, Great Prices,” based on the quality of education at a reasonable cost.
In “Best Master’s,” this year the college ranked seventh, tying with Rochester Institute of Technology—the only two New York-based institutions in the top ten.
“I am not only pleased with our ranking this year but with our consistent ranking—ten years in the top ten,” said Ithaca College President Peggy R. Williams, adding: “We know we offer our students great value, so I am especially glad that America’s Best Colleges included us in ‘Great Schools, Great Prices,’ which they describe as based ‘on the premise that the most significant values are among the colleges that are above average academically,’” she said.
“The excellence of our faculty and staff, along with the quality of our students has certainly contributed to receiving recognition from this outside source,” added Williams.
The master’s rankings are based on peer assessment, graduation and retention, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving. The “Best Master’s Universities” category includes institutions that provide a full range of undergraduate and some master’s programs but offer few, if any, doctoral programs.
Coeducational and nonsectarian, Ithaca College is a nationally recognized independent college of some 6,100 undergraduates and 300 graduate students. Located in Ithaca, New York, it combines the individual attention of a small institution with the resources and offerings of a large university. The college was founded in 1892 as a music conservatory and today continues that emphasis on performance and active learning—both inside and outside of the classroom—with over 100 degree programs offered through the Schools of Business, Communications, Health Sciences and Human Performance, Humanities and Sciences, and Music as well as the Division of Graduate Studies and Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies.
