You’re Invited to a Campus Celebration!

President Peggy R. Williams cordially invites all Ithaca College faculty, staff, and students to a campuswide celebration Thursday, October 12, in honor of the largest capital campaign in IC history.

The celebration will begin at 12:15 p.m. in Ford Hall with a special address by Robert A. Iger ’73, president and CEO of The Walt Disney Company and honorary chair of the Campaign for Ithaca College: Making a World of Difference.

At 5:15 p.m., six receptions will be held across campus:
• School of Business, tent near the construction site for the new building
• Roy H. Park School of Communications, Park Hall lobby
• School of Health Sciences and Human Performance, Center for Health Sciences atrium
• School of Humanities and Sciences, Handwerker Gallery and Gannett Center porch
• Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies, Center for Health Sciences, room 106 (lounge)
• School of Music, McHenry Lobby, Whalen Center for Music

All faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend; there’s no need for a direct affiliation with a particular school or division. A wonderful assortment of foods will be served at each reception, and there will be special exhibits and demonstrations as well as the opportunity to meet interesting alumni, parents, and friends of the College. Click here to sign up for the reception of your choice.

Here’s why we’re celebrating:
On October 12 we will officially launch the College’s largest campaign, which will raise funds for the following initiatives:
• Educational innovation: Endowing new academic programs, enhancing existing ones, and creating faculty development opportunities and student internships.
• Scholarship aid: Ensuring that generations of students can afford an IC education through endowed scholarships.
• A new School of Business building: Providing the College’s business students with a facility that will foster collaborative learning and serve as a working laboratory for sustainable enterprise. The new building will seek the highest certification in the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program run by the U.S. Green Building Council.
• A new athletics and events center: Giving Ithaca’s student-athletes an even playing field on which to compete with other colleges. The center will also support active-learning partnerships with programs like sport media and athletic training, and will provide an indoor venue large enough for campuswide events, such as Commencement.
• Living spaces: Providing additional student housing. Ithaca has entered into a long-term agreement with a private real estate developer for the Circle Apartments, adjacent to campus on Danby Road. As part of the contract, the existing apartments were renovated and another nine buildings were added to house about 700 students.
• Support of the Ithaca Fund: Meeting the annual need for such items as visiting scholars and artists, campus technology, faculty/student research opportunities, library materials, and much-needed financial aid for Ithaca College students.

This is truly a special moment in the history of Ithaca College, and I look forward to wide participation from members of our College community. Supervisors are kindly encouraged to make this opportunity known and available to all their employees.
