Nicholas Walker will present a varied program of music for the string bass on Tuesday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. Walker will be joined by pianist Jairo Geronymo and guitarist Pablo Cohen for this free concert.
The program includes transcriptions of music by Vaughan Williams and the Beatles, as well as original works by François Rabbath and Dana Wilson, and Catalonian and South American music. Both the Brazilian “Choro” tradition and the tango music of Argentinian Astor Piazzolla are represented. An original work by one of Walker’s students is also on the program.
Nicholas Walker is an accomplished musician who brings a broad range of training and experience to the string bass - classical and jazz, modern and baroque, solo recitals and chamber ensembles – his enthusiasm and aptitude transcend arbitrary musical boundaries. Walker Studied bass at Rice University, at the Paris Conservatory, Rabbath Institute on a Fulbright Scholarship, and he earned a doctorate in Early Music from Stony Brook University. An endearing performer, Pablo Cohen has participated in solo, ensemble, and orchestral concerts in the United States, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. As a featured artist, Pablo Cohen performed at the Salle Cortot in Paris, at the Ho-Am Hall for Performing Arts in Seoul, at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Brazilian-born pianist Jairo Geronymo holds degrees from Sao Paulo State University, Arizona State University and University of Washington. An enthusiastic pedagogue and presenter, Dr. Geronymo has taught at Pacific Lutheran University and Western Washington University.
