Lisa Maurer, Coordinator of the Center for LGBT Education, Outreach and Services, published an article in the October 2006 issue of GLBT Campus Matters titled "LGBT Smoking Awareness Initiative Promotes Quitting."

The article notes unique health disparities LGBT students face, and describes the LGBT Center's tobacco cessation and prevention initiative, designed to address disproportionate rates of smoking in sexual minority students at Ithaca College.

GLBT Campus Matters also features the work of the LGBT Center in its August 2006 themed issue on making new LGBT students feel welcome on campus. This issue highlights the annual Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen film series as a best practice for specific outreach to first year and transfer students. It also includes a "Roundtable of Ideas" discussion with invited participants, including Maurer, highlighting issues that new LGBT students face upon coming to campus, and strategies and campus collaborations that can assist in their transition.
