The Shuhan Duo--flutist Elizabeth Shuhan and Alex Shuhan playing the French horn--will be joined by pianist Jennifer Hayghe for a free recital entitled “Sonatas, Musings, and Trios” on Thursday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall at Ithaca College. Their program includes a trio by Madeline Dring, “Musings for Horn and Piano” by IC faculty composer Dana Wilson, Prokofiev’s flute sonata, and duos by Johannes Brahms.
Elizabeth Shuhan is a lecturer at Ithaca College, a private flute instructor at Cornell University and a Suzuki flute specialist in Ithaca, NY. As the current principal flutist with the Fort Smith Symphony (AR), she has recorded for the Naxos label. She was previously the director of the University of Arkansas Suzuki Music School, a former elementary music specialist in the Arkansas public schools and a member of the North Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and Meridien (MS) Symphony Orchestra.
Alex Shuhan is a founding member of Rhythm & Brass and is also associate professor of horn at Ithaca College. He is principal horn with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and performs frequently with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. He also performs regularly at the Skaneateles Chamber Music Festival.
Jennifer Hayghe, assistant professor of performance studies, was the 2004 winner of the Louisiana State University School of Music Excellence in Teaching Award and the 2004 Artist Fellowship from Louisiana Division of the Arts, as well as the Juilliard Petschek Debut Award. She has done solo, chamber, and orchestral performances throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.
