Deborah Montgomery-Cove, a professor of music performance at the Ithaca College School of Music, will present a free evening exploring the music of Poulenc on Sunday, November 5 at 4:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. Pianist Charis Dimaras will collaborate.
Montgomery-Cove explained: “This recital is the culmination of a yearlong study of the vocal music of Françis Poulenc. The first half of the program focuses on traditional French composers such as Chabrier, Faure, Debussy, and Satie that influenced Poulenc’s own unique development as a composer. The second half features Poulenc’s music and exemplifies the extraordinary relationship he had with the texts of his favorite poets. Musical selections will feature the poetic works of Ronsard, Morčas, Jacob, Čluard, Vilmorin and Appollinaire.”
Montgomery-Cove has performed with Virginia Opera, C.W. Post Summer Opera Festival, Ithaca Opera, Syracuse Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, Greensboro Orchestra, and the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. She won the Cleveland Art Song Competition, and studied in Vienna at the Mauerbach Festival. Her Alice Tully Hall debut was with Ithaca College ensembles in 1995; her Carnegie Hall debut was in 1989 in Mendelssohn's Elijah. Prior to teaching at Ithaca College, she taught at Appalachian State University, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and Northern Michigan University.
