The "Out of the Closet and onto the Screen" film series continues on Thursday, November 30, with a showing of “Fight Back, Fight AIDS” at 7:00 p.m. in Textor 103.

This documentary chronicles the history of the organization ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power), and will highlight World AIDS Day activities at Ithaca College. Members of the campus AIDS Working Group will have an informational table at the event, which is free and open to the public.

In March of 1987, the first ACT UP event took place on Wall Street. In the nearly two decades since that protest shut down the world’s financial center, ACT UP has been at the forefront of public awareness. Their demonstrations, die-ins, political funerals, marches, and speeches were key in propelling issues related to HIV/AIDS into major political and international topics. ACT UP member and AIDS video activist James Wentzy has constructed a vivid compilation of clips documenting the multiple bold events that ACT UP has staged.

The screening is the final fall offering of the yearlong Out of the Closet and onto the Screen film series, sponsored by the Ithaca College Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services. All screenings are free and open to the public. The spring schedule of films in this continuing series will be announced soon.
