The Sustainable Health and Wellness Fair will be held on Saturday, December 9th from 10:00a.m - noon in the Hill Center Gym.
This Fair, organized and presented by IC students, offers College community members the opportunity to learn about sustaining their health and wellness by integrating different kinds of health care modalities. The exhibitors and educators will cover a wide range of topics including, but not limited to: Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, Native American healing, reflexology, pet therapy, art therapy, music therapy, and various kinds of nutritional and herbal therapies. Presentations will incorporate a variety of hands-on activities and demonstrations. The focus of this event will be on proper nutrition, use of herbal products (natural and whole), and being conscious about the importance of creating a healthy environment in their daily lives. The event introduces the campus community to the multitudes of health care modalities practiced globally that emphasize prevention and maintenance of optimum health.
The fair is being organized and presented by students as a project of the “Wellness: A Multicultural Perspective on Health and Healing” course (662-21300). Students from the “Human Nutrition” course, taught by professors Julia Lapp and Cindy Milner, are also participating in this event.
The development of this event is based upon a grant awarded to Dr. Srijana Bajracharya through the Sustainability Curriculum Development Summer Mini-grant program sponsored by the "Science in the Community" program, the continuing partnership between EcoVillage at Ithaca and Environmental Studies.
Faculty members across the campus may wish to encourage their students to attend this fair by offering them extra credit for learning about sustainable health and wellness. The fair planners will have forms available for attendees to complete that they can provide to their course instructors as proof of their participation. For example, if students visit at least five of the 25-30 planned information booths, they may receive 10 extra credits.
Please support our students: help them educate themselves and others about sustainability.
