I wish to announce that Peter Bardaglio has informed me that he will be resigning as provost and vice president for academic affairs as of May 31, 2007. He will be on sabbatical for the spring semester, during which he plans to complete his book-length manuscript on the politics of daily life in the U.S. South after the Civil War as well as continue research on another project regarding sexuality and the law in the 19th-century South. He will not be returning to the College following his sabbatical.
Peter joined the Provost’s office in July 2002. In his letter of resignation to me, he stated, “Perhaps most gratifying is the significant progress achieved during the past several years in implementing the College’s Institutional Plan. In light of this progress, together with the fact that both the sustainability initiative and Middle States self-study are well underway, the timing is now right for me to pursue other professional and scholarly opportunities. It has been a pleasure working with the many accomplished faculty and staff at Ithaca College. Thank you for the opportunity to serve this fine institution.”
On behalf of the IC community, I thank Peter for his service and wish him well in his future pursuits.
In the short term, I will assume the duties of Provost while I develop a plan for the position. During this period, I will work closely with the Deans and with the staff in the Office of the Provost to ensure that the services provided by that office are continued. We all appreciate your support as we move forward with the remainder of the academic year.
