As part of our WinterFest programming, the Student Activities Board is extremely honored to be hosting guest speaker ARUN GANDHI on Monday, February 5th, 2007 at 7.00 pm in Emerson Suites. Arun Gandhi is the grandson of the legendary peace fighter and spiritual leader Mohandas Gandhi, and is also the founder of the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence.
He will be speaking for approximately one hour and will then take questions from the audience. Following the event, he will be available in the North Foyer for additional questions for a set period of time.
Born and raised in apartheid-era South Africa, Arun Gandhi was sent to India when he was 12 to live with his grandfather, where he observed firsthand the profound national campaign for liberation through nonviolent means. Following his visit to India, Arun Gandhi went on to lead successful economic and social reforms in India. He then came to the United States, where he and his wife founded the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence at the Christian Brothers University in Memphis. By continuing his grandfather's legacy, Arun Gandhi has been able to provide insight into one of history's most influential leaders and has continued to stress the importance of nonviolence. Gandhi’s speech will focus on his reflections of the time spent with his grandfather, as well as on the current state of today’s global society.
Arun Gandhi’s lecture will be open to the public, and it is free of charge.
SAB will be posting flyers on campus with a complete schedule for the rest of WinterFest week’s programming.
