Important Message for the Campus Community

It is with the greatest of regret that I must inform the Ithaca College community of the death of one of our students. Junior Cassandra Karpinski passed away of apparently natural causes at Luton Airport outside of London earlier today. Cassandra was spending the spring semester at Ithaca College’s London Center, and had just returned from a weekend trip to Amsterdam with some fellow London Center students.

A television-radio and English major, Cassandra had served as an R.A. last semester in Emerson Hall and last year in the Terraces. She had written articles for The Ithacan, and while in London she was interning at Peace News. She was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry, New Hampshire.

Staff from the Counseling Center and the Office of the Chaplains will be available at Muller Chapel at 6 p.m. this evening for members of the campus community who wish to discuss their feelings and express their sentiments. Counseling Center staff can also be reached during regular business hours at 274-3136. The London Center will be holding several open sessions for students there on Tuesday, and a grief counselor will be available to meet with students in small groups or one-on-one.

Details on services and other memorial activities will be announced when those arrangements have been made.

I know that the entire college community joins with me in extending our deepest sympathies, along with our thoughts and prayers, to Cassandra’s family, friends, and classmates for their tragic loss.

Brian McAree
Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Life
