The Handwerker Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of “Blue Like Me: Recent Work by Siona Benjamin,” curated by Cheryl Kramer, on Thursday, March 1. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, March 1, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and the work will remain on display until April 7. An illustrated catalog will accompany the exhibition.

A Sephardic Jew from India, Benjamin’s work is taken from her Finding Home series in which she explores issued of identity and belonging. Thorough her paintings, she questions what and where “home” is, both spiritually and literally, as well as the role of art in social change.

Benjamin will deliver an artist’s talk at 12:15 p.m. on March 27, as well as participate in a lecture and dance performance entitled “Color me Blue” at 6:30 p.m. on March 27. Co-sponsored by the Jewish Studies Program and the School of Humanities and Sciences, these events will take place in the Handwerker Gallery and are held in conjunction with the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival.

All Handwerker Gallery events are free and open to the public. For more information please see www.ithaca.edu/handwerker or contact Cheryl Kramer, Handwerker Gallery Director, at 274-3548.
