Come hear a first-hand report from the Ithaca College delegation that attended the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Nairobi, Kenya in November. This sustainability cafe will be held in the McDonald Lounge in the Campus Center at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7.
Garry Thomas, retired professor from the Department of Anthropology, and Sean Vormwald, assistant director of alumni relations and a current graduate student in the Park School, will team to discuss their observations of this international climate change conference. Ithaca College has recognized observer status for these important United Nations conferences.
This is the third time Ithaca College has had representation at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. This international body developed the Kyoto Protocol, an international agreement that sets legally binding targets and timetables for cutting the greenhouse-gas emissions of industrialized countries.
Vormwald attended the first framework convention in the Hague while an Ithaca undergraduate, and he returned as part of the large student and faculty delegation that attended the 2005 Framework Convention held in Montreal. While this was Professor Thomas' first time at this UN conference, he has long worked and studied on the African continent.
