Junior and senior H&S students with outstanding academic records and financial aid eligibility are invited to apply for the Fred L. Emerson Humanities Collaboration Award that supports faculty/student collaboration on scholarly projects in the Humanities. The deadline to submit a formal proposal for projects taking place summer 2007, fall 2007, or spring 2008 is Tuesday, March 20, by 4pm.
This award encourages both students and faculty in the Humanities to carry out professional collaborations in such areas as archival research, manuscript editing, and course development. The Award offers a stipend of up to $3,000 to enable student recipients to devote time and attention to the work required to succeed in such scholarly projects. The potential rewards are high for both students and faculty. Students are able to make a significant contribution to scholarship, to learn and apply the knowledge and skills they have been developing in their coursework, and in the process deepen their own understanding of what it really means to do scholarly work in the humanities. At the same time, faculty members can make significant progress on their own scholarly endeavors with the support of a first-rate student assistant, and in this way, help to prepare the next generation of scholars.
Both student applicants and their faculty mentors must submit materials as part of the proposal process. Guidelines and application forms can be found at https://www.ithaca.edu/hs/community/fundingopps/emersoncollabawards/. Formal proposals should be submitted by March 19 c/o Lynn Tordella in the H&S Dean’s Office, 201 Muller.
Questions about eligibility, specific projects, or application procedures, can be addressed to Stacia Zabusky, Interim Assistant Dean, School of Humanities and Sciences (274-3409, szabusky@ithaca.edu).
