Your Health, Your Right: A Guide for LGBT People and Allies

Tara Foley, advocate for health in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities, and 2002 IC grad in Community Health Education, will discuss health issues of importance for LGBT people and their allies.
In her presentation, Foley will provide a comprehensive understanding of LGBT health issues, including:
• understanding LGBT vocabulary
• barriers to health care: structural, financial, personal, cultural
• health Issues for LGBT people
• what you can do as patient/advocate
Foley was most recently coordinator of outreach, training and lesbian health services at Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, New York City’s only primary health care center dedicated to meeting the health needs of the LGBT communities and people living with HIV/AIDS. She also headed the Lesbian Health and Wellness Program and was responsible for increasing outreach efforts to recruit lesbians and bisexual women for mammograms and primary care at Callen-Lorde.
