The Kulmusik Contemporary Chamber Ensemble at the Ithaca College School of Music will present a free concert on Tuesday, April 10 at 8:15 pm in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. Under the artistic direction of Sally Lamb, the program features works by contemporary composers Stephen Hartke, John Harbison, Paul Rudy and Robert Pierzak.
Led by graduate conductor Devin Hughes, Harbison's powerful “Mirabai Songs” will be sung by School of Music faculty member Deborah Lifton and accompanied by a student ensemble. The engaging violin duo by Stephen Hartke, "Oh, Them Rats Is Mean In My Kitchen" will be performed by faculty violinist Rebecca Ansel and senior Megan Atchley. Guest composer and performer Paul Rudy brings his compelling and unusual work for solo cactus and tape to the stage joined by choreographer/dancer Lindsay Gilmour and company. Rudy uses contact microphones attached to the cactus to pick up the sounds of his fingers manipulating the plant. Finally, IC alumnus Robert Pierzak returns to campus for the premiere of his violin concerto, written for senior Joshua Modney, conducted by Jeffery Meyer.
