The Ithaca College Choir and Madrigal Singers will give a free joint concert on Sunday, April 22 at 4:00 p.m. in Ford Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music. The concert will be conducted by Lawrence Doebler and graduate conducting students Drew Benware and Chris Dresko. The choir will present a world premiere by Tyler Flanders, a composition student and two year member of the Ithaca College Choir, along with works by Ives, Argento, and Rachmaninoff.

The Madrigal Singers will present the “Musikalische Exequien” by Heinrich Schütz, assisted by harpsichordist Jean Radice. Doebler explained that the work is in the form of a requiem. “The text was selected by Schutz's benefactor for whom the piece is written. The first movement alternates soli and chorus, the second is for antiphonal double choir and the third is for chorus and a trio of soloists who represent the departed.”

The Ithaca College School of Music presents some 300 free concerts annually, for more information visit www.ithaca.edu/concerts or call (607) 274-3717.
