Looking to Change Your Fall Housing Assignment?

We have now concluded the on-line housing selection process for returning students through Homer Connect for the 2007-2008 academic year. We know that every year after students select housing, spaces become available for a variety of reasons.

We also realize that while you selected housing, you may be interested in being considered for a different room on campus. If you did not select housing and have not been approved for off-campus or an away from campus program, you MUST contact the Office of Residential Life immediately to provide us with your housing preferences. Failure to do so will result in the Office of Residential Life placing you in housing wherever space allows.

If you have already selected housing for fall and are interested in moving rooms, there will be a summer wait list process for students interested in making changes. Applications for Circle, Garden, and Quad Apartments, Terrace Suites, Emerson Hall double and triple rooms, as well as single, double and triple rooms in the Terraces, Towers, and Quads will be available beginning Monday, April 30, 2007 in the Office of Residential Life. The on-time deadline for the wait lists will be Friday, May 4, 2007 at 5:00pm. All application received during the on-time period will be prioritized by total semesters completed (for individuals) and average semesters completed (for groups) through the Fall 2006 semester. For applications with the same number of semesters, ties will be broken by the lottery number assigned to students in March. All applications received after May 4, 2007 will be placed in date and time order based on when they are received. We will move students as space allows throughout the summer. There is no limit to the number of wait lists for which students can apply.

In addition to the wait list process, students have the option of filling out a vacancy form. The vacancy form provides students with the ability to request a specific student be moved into their room or apartment should a vacancy occur over the summer. Vacancy forms take priority over the wait list process, provided the Office of Residential Life has a vacancy form on file prior to the vacancy occurring. Many times vacancies occur in student rooms over the summer without the remaining roommate knowing. Therefore, we encourage all returning students to fill out a vacancy form prior to leaving for the summer, even if your roommate(s) plan on returning in the fall. Vacancy forms will also be available in the Office of Residential Life on Monday, April 30, 2007.

Finally, we want to give students the opportunity to provide us with feedback regarding the on-line housing selection process through Homer Connect. We realize that, as with most processes, no matter how much planning and testing you do, there will always be challenges you face during the first implementation. Therefore, we have created a brief survey for students to answer so that we can identify ways to improve the system for future processes. We strongly encourage all students who participated in the on-line process to complete the survey; without this feedback, we cannot get a sense of how students would prefer the on-line process to run. Please go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=332133758109 to complete this survey by May 4, 2007.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we completed the housing selection process through Homer Connect. We wish you the best of luck as you finish the spring semester and hope that you have a safe, relaxing and enjoyable summer.
