Members of Glimmerglass Opera’s acclaimed Young American Artists Program will present a free concert featuring the music of Jacques Offenbach at Ithaca College on Friday, May 4. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music.

The program will contain excerpts from Offenbach’s “Orpheus and the Underworld,” “La Perichole” and “The Grand Duchess of Gerulstein.”

The Young American Artists Program was established at Glimmerglass Opera in 1988 as a component of the company’s mission to promote an artistically challenging environment for young American singers at the beginning of their professional careers. The focus of the program is on education through performance, which comes principally from an opportunity to work with established directors, designers and conductors.

Founded in 1975, Glimmerglass Opera is located near Cooperstown, New York, on the shore of Otsego Lake, the “Glimmerglass” of James Fenimore Cooper’s “Leather-Stocking Tales.”
