Lynn Porter Receives JJ Staff Scholar Award

Lynn Porter, clinical office assistant at the Hammond Health Center, is this year's recipient of the 2006-2007 JJ Staff Scholar Award.

Lynn, who has worked for the College since October 2001, was presented this award at the Ithaca College Employee Picnic on June 9. Lynn is currently enrolled in Community Health Education and has only five more classes before earning her degree in the Spring of 2008.

Established in 1997 to honor president emeritus James J. Whalen, the annual award gives $500 to eligible staff members in a degree program at the College. The money can be used to pay for books and defray other educational costs. Candidates for a JJ Staff Scholar Award must be a full-time staff member of the College working in grades 2 to 16. They must also be martriculating seniors who have completed at least 90 hours toward graduation and are maintaining a grade point average of 3.2 or higher.

The JJ Staff Scholar Award Committe is chaired by Sue DuBrava. The members are Colleen Barnes, Marcia Burgess, Margie Malepe, and Rosealie Fitzgerald.

Previous recipients are Donna Wray, William Weeks, Denise Benjamin, Lola Snow, Jacalyn Spoon, Deborah Emnett, Peggy Termina, Kathy Besemer, Christine Davie, Angela Rogers, Erica Weiss, Bernard Hogben, Peter Kilcoyne, Lynn Tordella, Gail Belokur, and Mary Taylor.
