The largest Associated New American Colleges (ANAC) Summer Institute drew over 140 faculty and staff from 20 institutions to Elon University June 13-15. Ithaca College was represented by 10 participants and two sessions in the program.

One session, on multiple literacies, featured the innovative “Health Data in the Classroom” project co-sponsored by the Division of Academic Affairs and the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life, within the context of national efforts to integrate data analysis across the curriculum. Presenters were Priscilla Quirk, coordinator of health promotion and substance abuse prevention, Stephen Sweet, sociology, and Susanne Morgan, sociology and director of the Center for Faculty Excellence.

The other session included presentations from three prominent ANAC Institutions on innovative aspects of service learning. Julia Lapp, health promotion and physical education, and Susanne Morgan described the authentic partnership between the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute and Longview and the wide range of kinds of service learning that it facilitates. Slides and handouts from most of the sessions are on the Elon/ANAC page, where our sessions were 1b and 3c.

The Associated New American Colleges is a national consortium of twenty-two selective, small to mid-size (2,000-7,500 students) independent colleges and universities dedicated to the purposeful integration of liberal education, professional studies, and civic engagement. The focus of this year's institute was on best practices in teaching and learning. The program emphasized pedagogies and programs that blur traditional disciplinary and classroom boundaries, bringing together curricular and co-curricular efforts to transform student learning on member campuses and around the world.

Incoming provost Kathleen Rountree attended a portion of the Institute. The full Ithaca College team included:
