The fifth annual "Out of the Closet and onto the Screen" film series will begin on Thursday, August 30, with a showing of "Transgeneration." The film chronicles the lives of four college students who address the challenges of college life while simultaneously coping with the personal challenges of undergoing gender transition. The screening will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Textor 102.
Sponsored by the Ithaca College Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services, the film series this year will focus on the theme of ways people transgress, challenge and redefine gender as we know it. The series will present a total of six films during the fall semester. Additional screenings will take place during the spring. All are free and open to the public.

Transparent
Pink or blue. Male or Female. Mommy or Daddy. Categories that are often taken for granted as simple and concrete dichotomies are blown wide open in “Transparent,” a new documentary film about 19 female-to-male (FTM) transsexuals who have given birth and, in all but a few stories, gone on to raise their biological children, revealing the diverse ways in which each person reconciles this part of their history - giving birth and being biological mothers - now that they identify as male.

Georgie Girl
A one-time sex worker of Maori descent turned public official in New Zealand, Georgina Beyer stunned the world in 1999 by becoming the first transgender person to hold national office. With charisma, humor and charm, Beyer unapologetically recounts her fascinating life story, shares how she overcame adversity and discloses the reasons she decided to run for office in a mostly white, conservative electorate.
