As a part of the Student Leadership Institute, Lisa Maurer will present a free session, entitled "An Introduction to LGBT Issues and Themes for the Leader," on Tuesday, December 4, at 12:10–1:05 p.m. in Clark Lounge.

LGBT is not a sandwich! Examine basic concepts about sexual orientation and gender identity. Explore themes that impact LGBT people including the "coming out" process, the evolution of the understanding of sexual orientation, the diversity of LGBT communities, legal issues of sexual and gender minority people, and more.

The outcomes for the session are:
• Define sexual orientation and gender identity, including similarities, differences, intersections
• Identify impact of homophobia and heterosexism on all people in society
• Examine some LGBT people and concepts in historical/cultural context

This session earns credit for the "Leadership in a Diverse World" Certificate.
