A video documentary about daily life in the Jungle, the wooded area near Ithaca's Inlet that for decades has served as a home for the homeless, will be premiered in the open air just outside the Jungle itself, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 22.
Titled "The Jungle's Edge," the 30-minute video was produced over a two-year period by Gossa Tsegaye and David Fogel.
Tsegaye, an assistant professor in the Department of Television-Radio, has produced several documentaries on marginalized groups in Tompkins County, including "Dream Street," about residents of the Buffalo Hill Road area in Caroline, and "The Dividing Line," about the so-called Rhiners of Ithaca's West End. Fogel, a native Ithacan and Freeville resident, has long been interested in the history of the West End.
The public is invited to the initial showing of "The Jungle's Edge," which will be projected against the wall of a building owned by Maguire Ford on Cecil Malone Drive, just past the back entrance to Wegmans. Signs will direct viewers to the location. The rain date is Saturday, September 29.
