We hope the semester is off to a good start for all of you. This serves to update you on the progress to date related to the presidential search and the next steps involving all members of the campus community.

Search firm Witt/Kieffer has been retained to assist the board with the presidential search. The individuals working with us from Witt/Kieffer are Jean Dowdall and Lucy Leske. Both have extensive experience in presidential searches and we believe their expertise will be invaluable as we begin the next steps in this very important process.

We will be visiting campus next week October 3 and 4 to meet with members of the campus community. The purpose of these meetings will be to hear firsthand your thoughts on the qualities desired in our next president. The following sample questions are designed to provide a beginning framework for our discussions during these meetings:

On October 3, the consultants will join us for meetings with President's Council, Deans' Council, Faculty Council, Student Government Association, Staff Council, and the Administrative Assembly. On October 4, we will hold a series of open meetings for faculty, staff, and students that will provide the opportunity for broad campus input into the above questions.

All of the information gathered during the two days of meetings will then be added to the information gathered from the board of trustees during their meeting on September 23 and will be used by our consultants to draft the position specification document. The document will be then reviewed with the Board of Trustees and the Presidential Search Committee for approval. Once approved, the position specification document will be provided to all those interested in being considered for the position.

We have asked Nancy Pringle, as secretary to the board, to develop a schedule for the above meeting days that provides the opportunity for as many individuals as possible to attend. The schedule for the two days is:
