Assistant professor of chemistry Scott Ulrich presented at Colby College in Maine. The title of his presentation, "Chemical Inhibition of Bacteria Quorum Sensing," describes a novel approach to antibiotics that targets bacterial signaling pathways which control virulence, as opposed to bacteroicidal or bacteriostatic drugs.
Such drugs are less likely to generate drug resistance, since little selective pressure is imposed.
